Why we built Revise
Revise is scholarly publishing software made by people who work inside scholarly publishing, for editorial teams who want their journal to run smoothly from first submission to published article.
Where it started
Running a journal well asks a lot: structured submission, careful peer review, JATS XML for indexing, author proofreading, and files fit for the archive. Large publishers have whole departments for this. Many journals have a handful of committed people doing it alongside everything else — and they deserve tools that make the work lighter.
Often that work is spread across email threads for peer review, spreadsheets for reviewer contacts, an outside vendor for XML, and PDFs marked up by hand. It gets done, but it is easy for a manuscript to stall in an inbox, for reviewer records to sit on one person's laptop, and for the same metadata to be typed in four times. We wanted one place where all of it could live.
What Revise does
Revise follows the natural shape of a journal's work, which divides at the moment of acceptance, and gives each half a platform built for it. Revise[Submit] covers submission, peer review, and editorial decisions. Revise[Production] covers JATS XML, proofreading, and publication-ready output. When a manuscript is accepted, it moves across with all its metadata, ready for production.
It is built on Laravel and Livewire — familiar, widely supported technology — so a journal can host it on its own infrastructure and keep it running without specialist help. Your content stays in open formats, and if you already use Open Journal Systems, you can keep it.
Who builds it
Revise is developed in Indonesia by a small team working closely with the journals using it. Both Revise[Submit] and Revise[Production] are live and in production use today, shaped by feedback from those same journals.
Practical by design
We would rather help a journal start with what it needs than sell it more than it needs. Begin with one platform, host it yourself or let us run it, and grow from there. And if Revise is not the right fit yet, we will tell you.
